What Is a Trebuchet?
A trebuchet is a type of catapult that uses a counterweight to launch projectiles. Medieval armies used them to hurl boulders at castle walls. Troop 31's trebuchet hurls pumpkins, water balloons, and other objects at Scout events — to the delight of everyone present.
Building the Trebuchet
The trebuchet was a significant construction project requiring planning, carpentry skills, and a real understanding of physics. Scouts who worked on it applied engineering principles and developed practical skills that go far beyond any merit badge.
